About you
1 Do you consider yourself to be a native or fluent speaker of this language? If not, what language do you feel most comfortable speaking? No, I am not a fluent speaker of this language. I just learned the language when I worked with the indigenous people for 7 years. I am more comfortable speaking in Cebuano.
2 What other language(s) do you speak? How well do you speak each one? In addition to Binukid and Cebuano, I can also fluently speak Tagalog which is the Philippine national language.
3 What ethnic group do you identify with? I can identify myself mostly with the Cebuano. However my husband belongs to the Bukidnon Tribe, thus I can also identify with their tribe.
4 What kind of work does your family do? My parents were farmers.
5 What is your highest level of education? Graduate Degree
6 How threatened do you think your language is? Young generation of Bukidnon does not speak the language anymore only the adults still use the language. I personally knew some families who are ashamed to use the language outside of their own home because they will be laughed at as being "natives" by other people.
7 Would you want your child to attend vernacular education programs? Elementary, Secondary, University? Yes, definitely, I would love to send my children to educational programs using the vernacular as a medium of instruction. I know it will help them understand more their culture and of the people who are still using the language.
In your home community
