Sundanese Morphology


Making a word plural:

Affix

If the word starts with p/b –ar- is inserted after the initial p/b of the word.

Ex:

budak -> barudak child -> children

disada  -> disarada sound -> sounds

 

Circumfix

In all other cases the initial consonant and vowel of the word is repeated AND –an is added to the end of the word.

Ex:

tangkal – tatangkalan tree -> trees

daun – dadaunan leaf -> leaves

 

Sentence Example:

Budak leutik bisa ngapung.

Child   small can  fly.

A small child that could fly.

 

Timeframe in Sundanese language doesn't affect the form of verb

                    is big                           to eat                   touch the tree.

Present         ayeuna ageung            dahar ayeuna           nyeukel tangkal ayeuna

Past             kamari ageung             dahar kamari           nyeukel tangkal kamari

Future          isukan ageung             dahar isukan            nyeukel tangkal isukan

 

Possession: e.g. Flowers

Your _  kembang anjeun

Their _ kembang aranjeun/anjeun sadaya
