My
name is Celestino Ximenes. I am doing my undergraduate at the department of
Political Science, Univeristy of Hawaii at Manoa. I am originally from
the eastern
part of Timor Leste
(Baucau district, Baguia sub district). My native language is Makasae.
It is spoken by most people in the district. However, as the movement of
young generation from rural to urban increases, Makasae becomes rare to
speak. Tetum has been the most prefered language of communication. Thus,
I am interested in
language documentation because by doing this I can preserve the values
and culture inherited by my ancestors. This project is also
a continuation of the projects done by Joao Sarmento and Alvaro Ribeiro years ago. |
