In Kirundi, the subject is a prefix attached to the verb root.
Person | Singular | Plural |
1 | n-, m- | tu- |
2 | u- | mu- |
3 | a- | ba- |
You can hear examples of this in some of the following sentences. In Ciza’s dialect you can hear the insertion of [d] after the n- prefix. This is called epenthesis.
I want to go to the bathroom | Ndashaka tugenda muri toilette
I want water | Ndashaka amazi
It is what it is | kadabaye
I want milk | Ndashaka amata
Your dog | urimbga | |
My name is Ciza | izina yanje ni Ciza |
