Story

A story narrated by Utsav Tiwari on the current political situation in Nepal, specifically in the Terai belt/Madhesh region where Bhojpuri is spoken.

English Translation:

30–60 sec. After a decade long struggle, we have a constitution in our country, but I am not feeling happy. I am sad instead.
60–90 sec. It’s not because they don’t care about our rights, but because they don’t even care of humanity. Rulers just want to rule.
90–120 sec. It’s the right of the people to protest. No one should try to snatch it. Death of 60 people just because they came to street to protest? What was the mistake of that 4 year old child who was shot dead on his head? I am feeling sad.
120–150 sec. I am not able to do anything as I am far away. I am not able to think what I should be doing. Buddha is considered a Nepali. He was born in Nepal. Who was he? He was a prince of a kingdom in Terai belt. At that time Nepal didn’t even exist. Buddha became Nepali but citizen of his kingdom? They could never accept us. Why? Just because our complexion is black. We don’t have any place to go, we live in Madhesh. Nepali don’t consider us Nepali & call us Indian, but India don’t accept us as we are not from there.
So, where are we from? There is a saying of Voltaire: “whether I agree or disagree to what you are saying but your right to express your opinion will always be preserved”.
