There are currently two orthographies for Marshallese, both based on the Latin script. The older and more widely used orthography was first introduced by missionaries, but it is not entirely consistent. There is a newer orthography that was created to be a more accurate representation of Marshallese pronunciation, but it is not as widely used and accepted as the older orthography.
