Xishui Dialect (浠水)

ABOUT ME AND THE LANGUAGE

Hello, my name is Juan (Julie) Wang, and I’m a Ph.D student in Linguistics. I come from Wuhan city, the central part of China and I’m a speaker of Xishui Dialect.

Xishui dialect is mainly spoken by people in Xishui county, which is located in the east of Wuhan city. It has been classified as Jianghuai Mandarin, a sub-dialect of the Northern Dialect of Chinese. Dialects spoken by people in the areas along the Yang-tze River in Anhui Province and Jiangxi Province, and areas in most Northern parts adjacent to the Yang-tze River in Jiangsu Province and the lower parts in Nanjing city are regarded as Jianghuai Mandarin.
